What are Smile Line fillers?

Life is full of reasons to smile, but sometimes in doing so regularly, we can cause lines to form around our mouths over time. Also referred to as ‘laughter lines’, smile lines are deep and inset lines that appear on either side of your lower face and extend out from your mouth. The repeated muscle actions that work as we smile are what causes these lines to appear, and they can often be more pronounced in slimmer people without much facial fat. When skin loses fat and elasticity as we age, these lines can appear much worse in some cases. Some of us will like our smile lines, as they definitely show signs of happiness and laughter, but others see them as a sign of ageing that they would like to treat. If you’re the latter, then you’ll be pleased to know that smile lines can easily be softened and smoothed out with dermal filler injections at Dr.JD&Co.

Types of fillers

To ensure the safety of our clients and to achieve optimal results, we use only the highest quality and top-rated products available on the market in our clinic.

There are many different types of dermal fillers available. The most popular ones today are made of Hyaluronic Acid, but they can also be made of other ingredients, such as collagen. Hyaluronic acid is a carbohydrate that attracts and binds water, helping to keep the skin hydrated and plump.

Some common filler brands include:

  • Juvéderm

  • Stylage

  • Ellansé

  • Restylane

  • Teosyal

How long do Dermal fillers last?

We usually say between 6–12 months, however, dermal fillers can last up to 18 months. Some fillers, such as Ellansé last longer. This is largely dependent on how much filler was placed, where it was placed, as well as how quickly your body metabolizes it. Some fillers, such as Ellansé last longer. Ellansé™ is unique in being the first and only dermal filler that is a biostimulator of collagen. In skilled hands it can be used as a cost-effective alternative to traditional dermal fillers to produce immediate, natural results lasting up to 4 years.

- Enhance features

- Restore volume

- Hydrate your skin

Hyaluronic acid (HA) based filler, which is meant to restore and refill naturally occurring HA to areas where it has been depleted.

Are They Safe?

Some patients may experience mild pain during the treatment, which will be administered using a cannula. A topical numbing cream is optional if required for pre-treatment. You may experience slight bruising or swelling around the injected area, but this should subside after a few days in most cases, and you should be able to cover this with makeup very easily. Dr.JD will provide in-depth aftercare advice for all of her patients's post-treatments.

How much filler will I need?

If you want a very subtle look and just want to restore a little volume, we recommend you have 0.5ml. However, if you prefer more volume, we recommend you have 1ml.

What happens when the fillers go wrong?

If you have dermal fillers and something goes wrong, then you can dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers using a substance called hyaluronidase, a naturally-occurring enzyme in the body. This quickly dissolves any filler in the area. Hyaluronidase can only be prescribed by a medical professional and so it pays to have dermal fillers done in a regulated clinical environment should something ever go wrong. Please note, collagen-based fillers such as Ellansé™ are not easily dissolved.

Course of treatment

It is important to note that for most treatments, the final results are visible around 2 weeks post-procedure. Meaning, we encourage you to remain patient during this time before making a final judgment.

That being said, each body is unique and, therefore, the biological PH balance and metabolic rate vary between clients. Results cannot be compared, predicted, or guaranteed. Should you need any follow-up appointments or have questions, please contact Dr.JD’s assistant at info@drjd.co.uk.

Each of our HA fillers will be made up of different strengths. Dr.JD will advise which are best for you. Specifically, Dr.JD likes to use Teoxane, Belotero, Stylage and Juvederm, depending on what filler is best suited to the patient.
