EXCESSIVE SWEATING

EXCESSIVE SWEATING
HOW LONG DOES TREATMENT LAST? Most patients experience an improvement to their symptoms for three to six months, after which repeat treatment is necessary to maintain results.

Sweating is a perfectly natural function of a healthy body. When we become warm, sweat is produced to coat the skin and provide a cooling function. Sweating may also occur due to exercise of hormonal imbalances. However, for some of us, far more sweat is produced than necessary, or without any obvious triggers. When this excessive sweating occurs, it is known medically as hyperhidrosis.

Whilst usually not a dangerous condition, hyperhidrosis can be difficult to live with, resulting in soaked skin, hair, and clothing and embarrassment for those who suffer. However, there are muscle relaxing solutions that are often highly effective in reducing the amount of sweat produced, allowing patients to live in confidence once more.

What Areas Can Be Treated For Excessive Sweating?

Common areas treated include the underarms, hands, feet, and face. However, treatment in other areas may be possible. During your consultation, Dr.JD will assess your condition and recommend a treatment plan best suited for you.

Is it painful?

Some patients may experience pain and discomfort during treatments. If required, an anesthetic may be used in order to keep you comfortable during the procedure. Some patients may experience pain or bruise at the site of treatment, or else headaches or flu-like symptoms, though this should subside within a few days.

Is there any downtime?

Patients may return to their normal routine immediately post-treatment, as long as they adhere to Dr.JD’s aftercare advice.

Course of treatment

It is important to note that for most treatments, the final results are visible around 2 weeks post-procedure. Meaning, we encourage you to remain patient during this time before making a final judgment.

That being said, each body is unique and, therefore, the biological PH balance and metabolic rate vary between clients. Results cannot be compared, predicted, or guaranteed. Should you need any follow-up appointments or have questions, please contact Dr.JD’s assistant at info@drjd.co.uk.

Botox works by blocking the signals from the nerves to the sweat glands, which then reduces sweating.

FAQ

  • Botox® is a neurotoxin derived from Clostridium botulinum, an organism found in the natural environment where it is largely inactive and non-toxic.

Botulinum toxin is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the underlying muscles.

It is essential that patients understand whether the brand of Botulinum toxin used meets stringent standards of quality efficacy and safety.

There are subtle differences in the chemical formulations of the main brands of Botulinum toxin available in the UK.

Botulinum toxin is available under four product formulations: Botox®, Vistabel®, Azzalure®, and Bocouture®.

While all four are generated from same bacteria, the Botox® brand has most Botulinum toxin in it and lasts longest.

  • Getting Botox® takes only a few minutes and no anesthesia is required. Your skin is cleaned, and small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort.

Several injections are usually needed at different sites. It takes about 10 minutes. The injections may be a little painful. Most people tolerate the discomfort well. It generally takes three to seven days to take full effect and it is best to avoid alcohol at least one week prior to treatment. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications should be stopped two weeks before treatment as well, in order to reduce bruising.

  • Each treatment of Botox for underarm sweating will take approximately thirty minutes to complete.

  • The most common side effects of Botox for underarm sweating are mild and temporary. These may include bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site.

In rare cases, more serious side effects such as difficulty swallowing, or breathing may occur.

  • Botox is a safe and effective treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis. However, as with any medical procedure, there are risks involved. Be sure to speak with your doctor about all potential risks and side effects before beginning treatment.

If you suffer from excessive underarm sweating, Botox may be a good treatment option for you!
